My pick
- Originally a mosque (confirmed)
My tip“The ascent is by ramps, not stairs (35 ramps), so it suits everyone; the ticket is shared with the cathedral and it is best to book it in advance; entry after four pm is less crowded.”
The minaret of the Great Mosque built by the Almohads. Abu Yaqub Yusuf began it and his son Yaqub al-Mansur completed it in 1198 CE, to celebrate the victory at Alarcos. It is the sister of the Kutubiyya in Marrakesh and the Hassan Tower in Rabat. A bell tower was added in the 16th century, and the Patio de los Naranjos also survives from the old mosque.
