A fishing town at the mouth of a river, with a long stone bridge, a castle and a Gothic church on the hill, and behind it the snow-capped peaks of the Picos de Europa in winter and spring. One of the loveliest scenes on the Cantabrian coast.
Easy to reach, needs a car
One hour by car from Santander; car parks at the harbour, and the climb to the castle is short.
