My tip“Parking is difficult in summer, so use the entrance car parks or the train from Hendaye. Gambetta street is for pedestrians, for shopping and Basque sweets (gâteau basque and macarons). Reminder for the trip to France: carry your passport (and the visa or Spanish residence card) for each person.”
A sandy beach in a bay closed off by sea barriers, so its water is calm compared with Biarritz and very suitable for children. It is edged by an elegant fishing town with pedestrian shopping streets.
What to see
The harbour and coloured fishing boats, the village of Ciboure opposite across the bridge, and the Sainte-Barbe promenade for views over the bay.
Easy to reach
30 minutes by car from San Sebastián, or the Topo train to Hendaye and then the TER train for ten minutes; the beach is level.
