4
  1. Monasterio de San Millán de Yuso

    · San Millán de la Cogolla

Together with the older Suso monastery carved into the rock, the cradle of the Spanish language: it is where the Glosas Emilianenses, the oldest written text in Castilian, were written (10th–11th century). A UNESCO World Heritage site, known as “the Escorial of La Rioja”.

Easy to reach · needs a car
By car only (an hour from Logroño); parking in front of the monastery. The tour takes about an hour, with no notable climbing. Access to Suso monastery is by a small bus belonging to the monastery, with the ticket. A few restaurants in the village.

    My tip
