Castrillo de los Polvazares

Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-MudarraMy tip
“Cars are banned inside the village, so leave yours in the car park at the entrance. The most famous dish here is the “cocido maragato”, which contains pork, so ask for alternatives or simply visit.”

A “Maragato” village, preserved as it has been for centuries, with houses of dark red stone, colourful wooden doors and a single cobbled street. It is one of the finest examples of the architecture of La Maragatería, near Astorga.

What to see

The main street paved with stone · the houses of the Maragato muleteers with their wide courtyards · the small village church · the surrounding fields and the Teleno mountains on the horizon

Easy to reach, needs a car

6 km from Astorga by car, with no regular public transport. The single street is fairly flat, but its cobbles are rough on wheels; a visit takes 45 minutes.
