- One of the most beautiful places in Spain
My tip“An hour and a half from Granada or Córdoba; start with Baeza in the morning, then Úbeda, and most sights close at midday.”
Twin cities inscribed as World Heritage on the olive plateau of Jaén. Until the 13th century they were among the great cities of northern al-Andalus, and then they were adorned with the most beautiful Renaissance architecture in Spain.
What to see
Úbeda: Plaza Vázquez de Molina and its palaces · Úbeda’s walls and the Puerta de Granada · the Mirador promenade over the sea of olives · Baeza: Plaza de los Leones (El Pópulo) and the Puerta de Jaén · the old university and the walls promenade in Baeza
How to get there
Alsa bus from Granada to Úbeda (≈2 h 30 min), and Baeza is on the way — by car ≈1 h 45 min
Easy to reach
Buses from Jaén and Granada to Úbeda and Baeza (no train to either town). Parking near the centre, and relatively level stone streets. Full services. Very hot in summer, and the sights close at midday.
