My tip“The inside opens one day a week (usually Wednesday) and by prior booking; make sure before you go. The view from outside is worth it even when it is closed.”
A fortress that looks massive from the outside (1509–1512 CE) hides inside the first Italian Renaissance courtyard in Spain, built with marble from Genoa, on a hill overlooking the Zenete plain and the Sierra Nevada mountains. It was built on purely Morisco land after the fall of Granada.
Moderate effort, needs a car
An uphill dirt road to the castle; walking from the village is preferable. 20 minutes from Guadix.
