One of the highest inhabited villages in Spain, divided into three quarters stepping up the slope in the same Alpujarran style. It was within the theatre of the 1568–1571 revolt led by Fernando de Válor, known as “Ibn Umayya” and then “Ibn Abbu”.
Moderate effort, needs a car
By car on a long, narrow mountain road (about two hours from Granada). The village is at 1,500 m, with terraced, steeply sloping neighbourhoods. Restaurants and jamón shops. Cold and snowy in winter.
