My pick
My tip“The best view is from the viewpoint above the bank, then go down to the bridge itself. In the town is the Monastery of San Benito of the Order of Alcántara. The area is hot in summer.”
One of the greatest surviving Roman bridges in the world, built by Emperor Trajan (104–106 CE) over the Tajo with six arches and a height of nearly 70 meters, with a triumphal arch at its center. The Arabs called it “al-Qantara”, which gave the town its name.
Easy to reach, needs a car
An hour and a quarter from Cáceres by car, near the Portuguese border. The bridge is flat and can be walked across, and the viewpoints are reached by short paths; one hour.
