My tip“The village is famous for its cured meats, mostly pork, so don't buy them. Winter is magical with snow, and summer is refreshing. Wear comfortable shoes.”
A mountain village at the foot of the Béjar mountains, with very steep streets where snowmelt channels (“regaderas”) run, and in front of its doors wooden half-doors (“batipuertas”) that once protected the houses from the snow. One of the most beautiful and distinctive villages in Spain.
What to see
The main street and its running water channels · the stone houses with wooden balconies and “batipuertas” · the Casa Chaquinero museum of traditional life · the Church of the Assumption and the village square · the La Covatilla ski resort, 20 minutes away
Moderate effort, needs a car
5 km from Béjar and 80 minutes from Salamanca by car; limited buses from Béjar. The alleys are very steep with water channels running down the middle; hard going for strollers.
