My tip“An expensive all-inclusive package (from about 1,300 euros per person), booked months ahead through Renfe or travel agencies, and running in summer only. The programme includes train-style meals, so ask in advance about halal or alternative meals. (Note: the most famous train, “Transcantábrico”, is mentioned in the guide.)”
A luxury hotel train from Renfe's tourist fleet, on the longest narrow-gauge line in Western Europe, between Bilbao and León through the mountains of Cantabria and northern Castile, in a three-day journey. Along the way, bus visits to villages and sights on the route are offered.
Easy to reach
Departs from La Concordia station in central Bilbao; the carriages are old-style with steps, and your luggage is moved for you.
