My tip“A good day trip from Madrid; combine it with Arenas de San Pedro and the Gredos mountains.”
A huge limestone cave discovered in the 1960s in the Tiétar valley south of Ávila, with a wide main hall full of carefully lit columns and stalagmites, and a constant temperature all year round.
Moderate effort, needs a car
From Ramacastañas, a narrow road of ~4 km to a parking area near the entrance. Inside the cave: passages, many steps and humidity (40 min). A café at the entrance. A car is essential.
