My tip“The area is famous for its vineyards, so skip the winery tours. The church is visited with a small ticket that includes climbing the tower. Two hours is enough.”
A historic town on a high plateau above the Duero river. Its best-known sights are the Romanesque collegiate church with its tower-like dome, and the “Puerta de la Majestad”, which has kept its original colours since the 13th century. From its lookout you see the plain of the famous battle.
What to see
The colourful Puerta de la Majestad inside the collegiate church · the “Partidor” lookout over the Duero valley · the clock tower and the main street · the medieval bridge over the Duero · the town square and its palaces
Easy to reach, needs a car
30 min from Zamora and 50 min from Valladolid by car, with regular buses. The centre is on a flat plateau; suitable for everyone.
