Chapter Two
Places in Val d'Aran
3 places I chose, arranged in chapters. A gold star marks one of my favourite picks.
Baqueira-Beret
· Baqueira
Spain's largest ski resort, with more than 160 km of runs in the Pyrenees, frequented by the elite of visitors and the royal family.
My tip
The ski season runs from December to April; book accommodation early, and the ski school suits children.
Uelhs deth Joèu
· Vielha
A spring where the Garonne gushes out from the heart of the mountain, amid dense forest and waterfalls; one of the finest summer walks in the Aran Valley.
My tip
An easy trail suitable for families from the car park (about 30 minutes uphill); it is cold in the morning, even in summer.
Baqueira Beret
· Baqueira (Naut Aran)
Spain's largest and most upmarket ski resort in the Aran Valley in the Pyrenees, favoured by the royal family. More than 160 km of slopes and an excellent ski school for children.
My tip
The season runs from December to April; book the hotel and a private ski instructor early for the Christmas holiday. There are few green runs, so beginners need an instructor. Car parks beneath the cable car.
Chapter Three
