One of my places in Madrid

Área recreativa del Hayedo de Montejo

Montejo de la Sierra

Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-MudarraMy tip
“Entry to the beech forest itself is by a free guided tour, which must be booked in advance (places sell out quickly, especially in autumn). The car park is very small (6–8 cars); the alternative is parking in the village of Montejo de la Sierra. Take your waste back with you.”

A picnic area on the bank of the Jarama River, beside the famous beech forest interpretation center in the far north of Madrid, with tables, a grassy meadow, toilets and paths for people with reduced mobility. Its autumn is magical with the colors of the leaves.

Easy to reach, needs a car

By car, about an hour and a half from Madrid via the A-1 and M-137; tables beside the road. Good shade by the river.

Barbecue

Not allowed: the Madrid region bans barbecues and lighting fires in forest areas all year round, including recreation areas; bring ready-made food.
