One of my places in Madrid

Silla de Felipe II

San Lorenzo de El Escorial

Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-MudarraMy tip
“There is a small café at the summit. The car park near the rock fills up on holidays; you can walk up from the Bosque de La Herrería (about an hour). Take your waste back with you.”

A granite rock carved like a seat, from which it is said King Philip II watched the construction of the Real Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial. It is surrounded by forest, with a panoramic view of the monastery and the plain. People sit among the rocks and trees to picnic.

Easy to reach, needs a car

By car to a car park very close to the rock, or walk uphill from La Herrería. Partial shade.

Barbecue

Not allowed: the Madrid region bans barbecues and lighting fires in forest areas all year round, including recreation areas; bring ready-made food.
