My tip“An hour and a half by car from Madrid; park at the village entrance and walk around. Buy local honey from the houses; the shop and restaurant are limited, so bring food.”
One of the smallest and best-preserved villages in the Madrid region, in the far “Sierra Norte”, with houses of slate, wood and clay on a slope overlooking the Jarama River. It has lived from beekeeping for centuries, and an easy trail leads from it to an old water mill.
What to see
The village's lanes and houses of slate and timber · the water mill on the Jarama river (15 minutes' walk) · the meadow with tables beside the mill · the traditional walled beehives (colmenares) · the circular mill trail
Easy to reach, needs a car
About an hour and a half by car via the A-1, then Montejo de la Sierra and a winding mountain road; practically no public transport. The village slopes slightly, and the mill path is an easy dirt track.
