My tip“Order a coffee or hot chocolate with a dessert, then go up to the roof of the building (token ticket) for a panoramic view over Gran Vía. The best times are the morning or after noon, before the evening crowds.”
The café of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, in a building designed by the architect Antonio Palacios (1926), is nicknamed “The Fishbowl” for its huge glass windows overlooking Calle de Alcalá. Its spacious hall, with its chandeliers and the statue of a reclining nude woman, has made it a meeting place for artists and intellectuals for decades.
