One of my places in Córdoba

Priego de Córdoba – Fuente del Rey

Priego de Córdoba

My pick
Dr. Abdulmajeed Al-MudarraMy tip
“Park near the town hall square and walk to the La Villa quarter with its white, flowering lanes, then to the Adarve balcony overlooking the valley. Priego olive oil is among the finest oils in Spain, so buy some.”

In Arabic sources Priego is a kura (district) of Córdoba famed for its silk and abundant water, and today it is the “capital of Córdoban Baroque”. The Fuente del Rey pours from 139 spouts into three basins, and is one of the most beautiful fountains in Spain.

What to see

The Fuente del Rey (139 spouts) · the Andalusi-style quarter of La Villa · the Adarve balcony above the cliff · the Castillo de Priego (originally Islamic) · the Casa de Niceto Alcalá-Zamora

Easy to reach, needs a car

The town sits on a plateau and the centre is relatively flat; the La Villa quarter has narrow alleys with no cars, suitable for strollers, with some steps. An hour and a half by car from Córdoba or Granada.
