My tip“45 minutes from Cádiz or 25 from Jerez de la Frontera; leave the car below the town and walk up.”
The gateway to the “White Villages” route: a town perched on a cliff above the Guadalete river, which was a small taifa kingdom in the 11th century, with steep lanes and stunning views.
What to see
Mirador de la Plaza del Cabildo above the cliff · the Ducal Castle, of Islamic origin (from outside) · Mirador de Abades · the steep white lanes and the Arco de Matrera · Lago de Arcos
How to get there
Bus from Cádiz (≈1 h 15 min) — by car ≈50 min
Moderate effort
Buses from Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz, or by car. Park in the car park below the town and walk up for 10–15 minutes through very steep, narrow streets (do not drive inside). Difficult for strollers and wheelchairs. Cafés and restaurants at the top.
Address
C. Abades, Arcos de la Frontera
