My tip“Best time: afternoons and weekday evenings; book Park Güell in advance. International, vegetarian, falafel and shawarma restaurants are available. Quiet and generally safe.”
It was an independent town until it was annexed by Barcelona in 1897, and it still keeps its village spirit with many small squares. A local bohemian district with cafés and craft shops, away from the crowds. From there you climb up to the famous Park Güell.
What to see
Park Güell by Gaudí · Casa Vicens (Gaudí's first house) · the Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia and its clock tower · Plaça del Sol · Gran de Gràcia street · the neighbourhood festival in August
