My tip“The tram from Alicante (line L1) goes there directly; combine it with the beach in half a day. Check the minimum order in the seafront restaurants.”
An old seaside town on the Alicante coast, famous for its row of colorful houses hanging over the riverbank above the beach. Fishermen used to paint them in bright colors so they could recognize them from the sea. It is also known for its chocolate-making tradition.
What to see
The coloured houses in the old quarter · the beach and promenade · the “Valor” chocolate museum · the fortified church and old walls · the Vilamuseu archaeology museum
Easy to reach
Tram from Alicante or Benidorm, or 30 minutes by car. The old quarter slopes down to the beach, with lifts; two hours.
